Who was Westley?
Westley was a very special rabbit that came into my life in June 2012. He and I faced many challenges in the following years until he passed peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge at around 5 years of age. He taught me a lot in his time with me and was the inspiration for Westley’s World which today, continues his legacy.
When Westley came into my life he was a neglected, starving, solidly matted, fur mite ridden young bun with severe malocclusion and never ending digestive problems.
Although I had been owned by rabbits for many decades, I had never had a rabbit with Westley’s unique combination of issues. So, in order to help him I began a quest to optimise his diet in an effort to stabilise and improve his health and well-being. It was a long and protracted battle because he was one very stubborn, broken blond bun, but in the end I was successful.
My efforts to facilitate the sharing of the research and learning that I undertook in an effort to help Westley culminated in the creation of a collection of files for a Facebook group I had created and was an Admin for. The creation of Westley’s World in January 2018 and ultimately this website, then followed.
Westley’s World’s goal is to improve the lives and welfare of pet rabbits throughout New Zealand through education outreach.
