Betsy & Nigel
DUNEDIN - Betsy and Nigel; Desexed Bonded M/F small breed pair. 2 1/2 yrs old, Vaccinated with Filavac (27/5/21)
We got Betsy from the SPCA around a year and a half ago and she was both vaccinated and spayed there. She was found as a stray rabbit by the SPCA and taken in.
She is the cheekiest little rabbit, who’s really come out of her shell since we first welcomed her into our home. She was originally very shy, timid and nippy and now is a very energetic little bun who gives us lots of licks and affection! She definitely needs a good amount of space to run around, either a big, safe outdoor enclosure with grass or a free-roamed environment inside would be most suitable for her.
Her only downfall would be she loves to chew. Outside this is totally fine, but if you’re unable to bunny proof your furniture and wires inside, she’ll likely get her teeth in it.
Betsy doesn’t mesh well with larger animals or children. She needs a calm, patient presence, that’s willing to gain her trust with love and respect.
We also got Nigel from the SPCA around a year ago, having been neutered and vaccinated there as well. Nigel’s had a tough beginning in life, being found by the SPCA in a cage, alongside two of his sisters, on an abandoned property. He was then adopted with his sisters but had to be returned to the SPCA as he lost his bond with them.
Nigel has come SO far while being in our family. He’s a super gentle and affectionate boy once you’ve earned his trust. He has a funny and stubborn personality which is always a laugh. He’s initially very nervous and will take a while to warm up to his new owners. Making it all the more rewarding when he eventually does. He’s just a little baby you’ll want to love and care for forever!
He also doesn’t mesh well with children and larger animals as he has a nervous nature. Patience is key with Nigel, letting him know you're there without trying to pick him up or invade his space. When he’s comfortable and feels safe, he’ll come out of his shell and his personality will start to show.
A big, safe outdoor enclosure with grass or a free-roamed environment inside would be most suitable for him.
These two are bonded and cannot be separated! Separating these two would cause severe anxiety and depression for both rabbits. They love each other.
