Collars and Harnesses

NEVER PUT A COLLAR ON YOUR RABBIT .....EVER!

Amongst other things, this is what can happen …

This little rabbit made a full recovery and the hospital found him a new home.

Collars are very dangerous for rabbits to wear for a number of reasons including the danger of strangulation, getting their jaw caught in it, the risk of neck injury or breaking their neck/back (their spines are VERY fragile) if the collar snags on something, skin irritation & fur matting.

A harness is slightly better but also carries risks – especially if your rabbit escapes whilst wearing it.

The type of harness shown here is the best/safest option for a rabbit and is available from pet shops and on line.

Nells’ Nest has a good range of NZ made, safe harnesses as well.

K-Mart also sell soft shell dog harness’ in a range of sizes at competitive prices.

To aid in the identification of your rabbit if it escapes, a microchip is the safest and most reliable option.
