Chicory - It establishes best when sown into warm soils (12˚C +) at 10 mm in depth, where there are low amounts of competition from other plants in the first three months. Spring sowing is highly preferred, with late autumn planting to be avoided. Recommended sowing rate of 8gms/m2. Chicory is suited to many soil types, but growth and persistence is maximised on soils with high fertility that do not frequently become waterlogged

Plantain - Fast to establish. Deep rooted, heat and cold tolerant. Much loved mineral rich, leafy green Pasture Herb. Recommended sowing rate of 6gms/m2. It has high tolerance to summer heat and in warmer regions can provide valuable summer growth. Establishes best when sown into free draining, warm soils (10-12°C) at no greater than 10mm depth and where there is little competition from other plants in the first three months. Spring and early autumn is best.

White Clover - White clover is perennial forage legume. It is grown throughout New Zealand and performs well on moderate to highly fertile soils, but can be less productive and persistent in dry situations. The ideal sowing depth for most legumes is around 10 mm with good consolidation. Recommended sowing rate of 8gms/m2. Clover is a legume so can potentially be gassy. Feed in limited amounts, totally fresh and un-wilted.

Red Clover - Red clover is a short lived (typically 2-4 years), tap rooted legume however it can last up to 7 years under favourable conditions. Recommended sowing rate of 10gms/m2. Clover is a legume so can potentially be gassy. Feed in limited amounts, totally fresh and un-wilted. Red Clover has medicinal properties, however further research is needed. Best fed in limited amounts as a treat.
